Man, Fuck These Dice - August 26, 2022

 - Jimmy says, "We need to talk."

- He convinces the group to duck into the alley / side street where he had been loitering because he doesn't want to walk up to the hillock

- The Black Bloods were hit very hard, and not just Jimmy's arm of the organization

- Jimmy's people tried to attack the Blackmore estate, and his people did not fair well, and it seemed like the zombie-creatures were protecting the estate

- Theophania convinces Jimmy to send the survivors of the attempted Blackmore estate to the Temple for healing because she's afraid that if the wounds fester and they die of them, she thinks there's a chance those people might rise as zombies

- After Jimmy departs, the group decides to try the Hall of Justice to see if Judge Blackmore is working today

- The Hall of Justice is closed and the only people who should be there are the city watch due to the current state of emergency

- They turn around and head to the Hillock after all

- The gate to the Blackmore estate's walled garden is broken, the garden looks torn up, and there's an outbuilding of some sort that looks like it was on fire at some point

- They walk up and Osiris knocks on the door

- The door opens - it is the security guard who chased Osiris and Tiff through a window

- Osiris's first thought on seeing him is "Oh shit, it's that guy" and then she realizes that something about him isn't quite right - he's holding his head strangely and his eyes look sunken

- Theophania asks to see Judge Blackmore, but the guard (Henry Todd) says the Blackmores are not receiving visitors today

- Osiris clutches her holy symbol and Channel's Divinity Turn Undead, but Henry seems unaffected

- Henry tells them to leave because Osiris cast a spell at him 

- He tries to go inside, but Osiris and Rusty refuse

- Rusty is very threatening and aggressive and a fight breaks out, much to Theophania's chagrin

BATTLE AT THE BLACKMORE ESTATE COURTYARD

- Lyrielle moves to behind Henry Todd and bonks him on the head with her staff for 13 bludgeoning dmg, but he isn't stunned by her Stunning Strike then she takes up a defensive stance

- HT swings at Lyrielle with his sword for 16 slashing dmg then he misses

- Theophania casts See Invisibility and then back up to the fountain after seeing no invisible things

- A Housekeeper(?) with claws(?) runs out the door straight to Theophania, misses, and then scratches her for 9 slashing dmg and 10 poison dmg

- Raiàn moves the housekeeper and casts Burning Hands then she Misty Steps into the house

- A Butler(?) with claws(?) swipes at Raiàn for 4 slashing and 12 poison dmg and then again for 9 slashing and 8 poison dmg

- Rusty Rages and moves up to HT and slices him with a great axe for 6 slashing dmg and then again for 7 slashing dmg (HT's blood is too thick, it's like jelly)

- Osiris casts Banish on HT, but he resists, then she moves out from behind Rusty and to the right

- A Cook(?) with claws(?) moves up to Raiàn and claws her for 9 slashing and 14 poison dmg and then again for 7 slashing and 23 poison dmg

- An Errand Boy(?) screams(?) a weird energy bolt hitting Lyrielle for 16 necrotic dmg

- Lyrielle smacks HT again for 25 bludgeoning dmg and he resists being Stunned again then she Disengages with Step of the Wind and runs behind a topiary in the shape of a horse

- HT swings at Rusty for 12 slashing dmg and then misses (Osiris notices that HT's wounds close up a little bit as well)

- Theophania casts Cure Wounds on herself for 9 HP

- The "Housekeeper" claws Theophania for 8 slashing and 23 poison dmg the misses

- Raiàn is not dead yet.

- The "Butler" moves to flank Rusty then claws him for 4 slashing and 8 poison dmg then misses

- Rusty misses the "Butler" and then chops him for 15 slashing dmg

- Osiris casts Aura of Vitality and uses it to give 17 HP to Raiàn then she moves to flank the "Butler" with Rusty

- The "Cook" thinks Raiàn is dead, so he scream attacks at Rusty for 8 necrotic dmg

- The "Errand Boy" misses Rusty with an energy scream

- Lyrielle moves to flank the "Housekeeper" with Tiff, misses with her staff then uses Wholeness of Body and regains 24 HP

- HT starts casts a spell (Magic Weapon?) then swings at Rusty for 14 slashing and 7 psychic dmg

- Theophania Disengages and runs away toward the gate

- The "Housekeeper" misses Lyrielle twice

- Raiàn casts Misty Step then stands up and stubbles away then turns and then tosses a Firebolt at the couch, which starts to catch fire

- The "Butler" misses Rusty then claws him for 2 slashing and 5 poison

- Rusty Disengages and runs towards the exit towards Theophania

- Osiris uses the AoV to heal Raiàn for 7 HP then moves to Rusty taking an attack from the Housekeeper (7 slashing and 10 poison dmg) and Cure Wounds Rusty for 19 HP

- The "Cook" moves into the open doorways and screams energy at Lyrielle 

- The "Errand Boy" put out the couch that's on fire

- Lyrielle smacks the "Housekeeper" for 13 bludgeoning dmg and she is Stunned  then she runs around the fountain towards the exit

- HT stares at Rusty with eyes like daggers, but Rusty is unaffected, so he moves in Rusty's direction up next to the "Housekeeper"

- Tiff casts Cure Wounds on herself and then run 25' more towards the exit

- The "Housekeeper" is Stunned

- Raiàn throws a Fireball (4th level) into the doorway dealing 39 fire dmg to HT (his sword stops glowing) and the Housekeep and the Cook, but the Butler ducks and only takes 19 fire dmg and some of the house is burning

- The "Butler" moves to Raiàn and claws her for 5 slashing and 12 poison and then again for 4 slashing and 12 poison, and Raiàn is unconscious again

- Rusty runs back to the "Housekeeper" grabs her and runs towards the gate

- Osiris moves into the fountain within 30' of Raiàn then heals her for 17 HP with the AoV, then she moves next to Rusty then she casts Sacred Flame on the "Housekeeper" for 12 radiant dmg

- The "Cook" and "Errand Boy" both spend their turns putting out fire in or on the house

- Lyrielle sprints for the exit

- HT moves up to Osiris, misses her, then slices into her for 17 slashing dmg

- Theophania casts Reduce on the "Housekeeper" but she resists the spell, then Theophania runs for the exit

- The "Housekeeper" does not break free of Rusty's grasp

- Raiàn Misty Steps towards the exit and then runs towards the exit then she casts Firebolt at HT for 

- Lyrielle runs out of the gate

- HT misses Osiris twice

- Tiff shoots Henry with her crossbow and then runs out the gate

- The "Housekeeper" breaks free from Rusty and runs towards the house (Rusty and Osiris both miss their opportunity attacks)

- Raiàn casts Fireball (4th level) so that HT and the "Housekeeper" for 10 fire dmg on both then they run out the gate

- The "Butler" screams energy at Rusty but misses then he moves towards the gate

- Rusty moves to flank HT with Osiris and chops him for 21 slashing dmg then they miss then he moves back next to Osiris

- Osiris heals Rusty for 14 HP then she casts Cure Wounds on herself for 18 HP then she turns and runs for the gate taking 24 slashing dmg from HT as she goes

- HT misses Rusty then slices into him for 15 slashing dmg

- Rusty Disengages and runs towards the gate

- Osiris heals Rusty for 13 HP then runs out the gate

EVERYONE ESCAPES

- The wounds the Theophania and Raiàn suffered are obviously from some kind of undead

- They hopefully have proof that they were attacked by undead at the Blackmore Estate

- Osiris casts Locate Creature to try to find Lord Blackmore, and she gets the feeling that he's somewhere in the house

- They make their way cautiously back to the Temple

- 2,300 XP ea. for 43,590 total XP ea.

Survivor: Mistverge - August 5, 2022

SKILL CHALLENGE TO SURVIVE THE NIGHT / SAVE TOWNSPEOPLE (5 before 3)

- Rusty uses Athletics to barricade the windows and doors with furniture (Success)

- Raiàn Persuades Magnus not to help (Success)

- Theophania sees some townspeople running from zombies, so she pulls out her Skywrite machine sand makes the clouds above the Curlywit Boardinghouse glow to attract their attention (Arcana - Success)

- Osiris runs out the door Rusty wrenches open for the townspeople, who make it inside before getting bitten, and Osiris tries to Sacred Flame them off the building (Religion - Fail) and the zombies swarm her

- Lyrielle Sneaks out a window and up the alley a little ways, then throws a dart at a flower pot to break it (Fail) The zombies do not notice and continue mauling Osiris

- Rusty runs out the door charging the zombies while screaming with glowing red eyes (Intimidation - Success) The zombies are taken aback enough for his to grab her and pull her back inside

- Raiàn hears glass breaking upstairs, so she runs up there and sees a spider-zombie climbing through a broken window, so she casts Magic Missile (Arcana - Success) and knocks him back out the window

- They board up the damaged window 

- The halflings live a few blocks up, and a zombie broke into the house where they were taking shelter, so they ran

- Callie gives them a stiff drink each (on the house)

- They halflings tell the group that the undead problem started a little after sundown

- Osiris can't piece together exactly what time the glowing would have started on the alter, and Theophania can't help since she was asleep when the glowing started

- Tiff keeps plinking zombies out the window with her limitless ammunition

- Osiris helps keep watch and she notices over time that they seem to have similar features in that they all seem to have been created by the same crazed individual or group of people 

- By the time the sun rises, they have a small group of survivors (5 halflings and a gnome)

- One of the halflings and the gnome claim to have been at a bar drinking when the zombies starting attacking, but Osiris gets the feeling they might have been looting houses

- None of the refugees are interested in coming to the temple with the group, so they leave them in the barricaded boardinghouse with Magnus having been given permission to use fireball again

- The streets are quiet, but there are bodies both of zombies and townspeople and a good bit of property damage 

- As they cross the Golden Bridge and head to the temple, the paths that lead into the normally open courtyard are heavily guarded, mostly with city watch

- Rusty has to show their badge to get past

- There is a little damage to the courtyard area, but the Temple itself seems unharmed

- They head straight to Rowan's office, and as they are walking up to the front door, they are directed to a side door instead as the sanctuary is very full of refugees (maybe 1,000)

- Rowan is very surprised to hear their report about the altar and the leak of necrotic energies

- Rowan says that the zombies came out of the sewers and the river and gravesites starting not long after sunset

- The older parts of the city (docks district) were hit the hardest as well as many areas with "dens of ill repute", though the newer "nicer" parts of town also have damage but that may have been from looters rather than creatures, and one of the estates on Winfair Hillock caught fire 

- Rowan doesn't know what to do about the pool of necrotic energy, so he directs them to Birel

- Birel looks exhausted and is directing many acolytes to organize all the incoming bodies

- They ask to speak to Birel in his office, and then give Birel the same spiel they gave to Rowan

- Birel thinks that it was a good-thing, or at least more good than bad, that the tendrils, altar, and skull were destroyed as it probably made the zombie outbreak that happened possible or easier

- Tiff offers to write a letter to Great Aunt Thessalie's friend who is a professor in one of the elven cities in the Niannan Freelands (Sharai), but Osiris says that she met her once and can 

- Birel also reports no undead rose from the catacombs under temple itself

- Rusty reports to the commander in charge of the security at the temple

- Then he goes Norman to requisition a new weapon since his greatsword is now an instrument that will create undead, and "that seems counterproductive at best"

- After very efficiently filling out the five pages of forms Norman requests for him, Norman brings him what is clearly a Dwarven-made great axe that Norman says was found when the area under the temple was excavated

- Osiris and Tiff head to the archive to research the Shadowfell and links thereto

- The Temple doesn't have a lot about the Shadowfell itself, but there are some history books that talk about this area that mention some cults that existed in the area and there is a cult who worshipped Takhisis, so they are probably the ones who created the altar

- Tiff falls asleep at the research table (they've been awake for like 30-32 hours at this point), so Rusty and Osiris take her to her room

- Rusty is very excited about his axe because he has vague memories of not being allowed one and given the sword instead.

- Long rest at the temple

- The group wakes up in the earlier evening and dresses in their nicest clothes 

- Right before they head to the Winfair Hillock, Osiris Sends to Sharai, "This is Osiris, friend of Thessalie. There is gate to the Shadowfell beneath Mistverge. Can you please come to the Temple and advise or help?"

- She receives, "I'm not really that kind of wizard. So not sure I can be of much help. I can try though. Can be there in three days."

- As they start up the road towards the Winfair Hillow, a man walks out of an alley, sidles up the group, and starts walking with them.

- Jimmy says, "We need to talk."

Night of the Horde of the Undead #MagnusGetsAClueByFour - July 29, 2022

 - Osiris starts running to the boarding house with Tiff under her arm and everyone else follows suit

- As they approach they see a creature pounding on the door of the Curlywit Boarding House, so Osiris tries to cast Sacred Flame, but it fizzles out 

- The creature turns around and sees them, and it's one of the humbacked zombies that explode

- It roars and more zombies appear, two of the spider-zombies on the roof and five halfling-sized ones

BATTLE AT THE BOARDING HOUSE

- Halfling-Sized Zombie-Purple runs up to Rusty and claws his thigh for 5 slashing and 8 poison dmg

- HSZ-Blue runs up to Osiris and misses her with his claws

- Spider-Zombie-Blue spits webbing at Raiàn, but misses

- HSZ-Red runs toward the gourp

- Tiff casts Enlarge on Lyrielle

- SZ-Red spits at Tiff but misses

- HumpBacked Zombie lumbers up to Osiris and punches her for 9 bludgeoning and 10 necrotic dmg, but it misses on the second hit

- HSZ-Orange runs up to Lyrielle and misses

- Raiàn moves forward 5' and casts Burning Hands on HSZ-Red (12 fire dmg), HBZ (12 fire dmg), and HSZ-Blue (6 fire dmg)

- Lyrielle misses HSZ-Purple with her stick

- HSZ-Green  runs up to flank Tiff with the HBZ for 5 slashing and 2 poison dmg 

- Osiris casts Turn Undead on all but the Spider Zombies, HSZ-Purple, Red, and Orange are overcome by radiant light and they dissolve into dust then she moves to flank HSZ-Green with Tiff, HBZ punches at her but misses (Fortune's Favor for the win!) and HSZ-Blue claws her for 6 slashing and 2 poison dmg

- Rusty Rages and then moves to the spot Osiris vacated and then slices into it with his greatsword for 13 slashing dmg then misses 

- HSZ-Blue misses Rusty

-SZ-Blue spits at Tiff for 8 acid dmg and she is stuck in web and Restrained

- Tiff casts Cure Wounds on herself for 10 HP

- SZ-Red spits at Raiàn for 14 acid dmg and she is stuck in web and Restrained

- HBZ punches Tiff for 5 bludgeoning and 11 necrotic dmg and then misses

- Raiàn breaks out of the web holding her down

- Lyrielle dashes over to flank both HBZ and HSZ-Blue and she thwacks HSZ-Blue into paste then she misses HBZ

- HSZ-Green misses Tiff

- Osiris smacks HSZ-Green for 8 bludgeoning and 1 radiant dmg with her warhammer, then she casts Healing Word on Theophania for 10 HP then she moves up next to Tiff

- Rusty moves to flank HSZ-Green and slices it in half then he moves back to HBZ and misses his twice

- The window of the boarding house opens and and a ball of fire is aimed at SZ-Blue and both it and SZ-Red take some fire dmg

- There is shouting at Magnus not to burn the building down

- SZ-Blue spits at Lyrielle for 14 acid dmg and she is Restrained

- Tiff struggles with the webbing

- SZ-Red spits at Rusty and misses

- HBZ punches Tiff for 6 bludgeoning and 5 necrotic dmg then punches her again for 15 bludgeoning and 15 necrotic dmg and she passes out in a pile of web

- Raiàn casts Wither and Bloom on HBZ and it takes 1 necrotic dmg and Tiff gets 9 HP then she sprints under the eave of the boarding house to get cover from the spitting zombies

- Lyrielle smacks HBZ for 11 bludgeoning and then she misses punching it and then she kicks it for 11 bludgeoning dmg

- Osiris picks up Theophania and drags her away from HBZ (which swipes at her but misses) until Tiff is propped against the building across the way from the boarding house, then she casts Healing Word on Tiff for 8 HP

- Rusty moves to flank HBZ with Lyrielle and then slices into it for 21 slashing dmg and then again for 23 slashing dmg

- SZ-Blue spits at Rusty for 7 acid dmg

- Tiff shoots SZ-Red for 9 piercing dmg

- SZ-Red misses Osiris

- HBZ misses Lyrielle twice

- Raiàn breathes lightning on SZ-R for 16 lightning dmg

- Lyrielle thwacks HBZ for 19 bludgeoning dmg and then she punches it for 9 bludgeoning dmg and then kicks it for another 9 bludgeoning dmg and it explodes with necrotic energy and Rusty and Lyrielle both take 8 necrotic dmg

- Osiris casts Moonbeam centered on SZ-Blue for 8 radiant dmg then she moves towards the boarding house and then Misty Steps the rest of the way under the eave for some cover from the spitters

- Rusty breaks out of the webbing Restraining him and runs toward some rain barrels sitting next to the boarding house

- SZ-Blue takes 7 radiant from the Moonbeam and then crosses of the peak of the roof and spits at Rusty but misses

- Theophania shoots SZ-Red for 3 piercing dmg

- SZ-Red spits at Rusty for 8 acid dmg and he is Restrained

- Raiàn casts Magic Missile on the spitters for 8 force dmg on SZ-Blue and 14 on SZ-Red and then she ducks back under the eaves 

- Lyrielle breaks out of the webbing Restraining her then she runs towards the boarding house

- Osiris moves the Moonbeam back onto SZ-Blue and it takes 9 radiant dmg then she casts Healing Word on Lyrielle for 9 HP

- Rusty breaks out of the web again then runs over to the rain barrel then climbs onto the roof

- SZ-Blue takes 9 radiant dmg from the Moonbeam, then steps over to Rusty and claws him for 9 slashing dmg then claws him again for 9 slashing dmg 

- Theophania misses

- SZ-Red runs through the Moonbeam and takes 14 radiant dmg as he moves to flank Rusty and then claws him for 14 slashing dmg the again for 8 slashing dmg

- Raiàn casts Magic Missile again for 15 force dmg on SZ-Red and 5 force dmg on SZ-Blue

- Lyrielle also uses the rain barrel to climb onto the roof next to Rusty then she thwacks SZ-Blue for 12 bludgeoning dmg then she punches it for 9 bludgeoning dmg

- Osiris moves her Moonbeam around off of and onto SZ-Blue again and it is incinerated by radiant light then she moves it onto SZ-Red then she ducks back under the eaves of the house

- Rusty turns around to SZ-Red and misses, then he swings again and also misses

- Tiff misses

- SZ-Red takes 6 radiant dmg from Moonbeam then misses Rusty then claws him for 8 slashing dmg

- Raiàn casts Magic Missile on SZ-Red for 10 force dmg and 

END OF BATTLE

- Osiris cuts Tiff out of the webbing trapping her

- Callie is standing by the door holding a rolling pin

- She is upset to hear about the fire spell 

- Everyone runs into the building, Lyrielle jumping down and running through the front door with her friends

- Rusty checks the roof and stomps out any remaining embers from Magnus's fire spell, then he smashes through the window that Magnus locked and barred

- Rusty then tells Magnus not to use fire spells on flammable buildings

- Rusty then boards up Magnus's window against further zombie incursions

- Raiàn makes a point of saying that there were a bunch of halfling zombies and she might have been friends with some of them and then apologizes

- Theophania posts up in a window and snipes zombies in the streets

- There is discussion with Magnus about what spells he knows, and he is given permission to use fire spells on zombies that are a sufficient distance from the surrounding buildings

- Callie and Magnus are the only other two in the building, so Osiris gives Callie her shortbow and her arrows

- Callie is very bad at the bow, so Osiris takes that back and gives her a dagger

- Osiris then waits by the door to Turn Undead again if another horde shows up

- Time is spent securing the ground and second floors

- They then decide to use Tiff's Skywrite to declare the building sanctuary for the living 

- They settle in for the night and get a short rest while watching for the undead or survivors 

- 3,000 XP ea for 39,290 XP total ea.

Did We Just Cause Night of the Undead? - July 22, 2022

 - Half-way through the group's long rest the altar starts glowing faintly

- Theophania makes breakfast which is oatmeal made on a tiny oil burner with dried fruit and brown sugar and then dried beef sticks

- Then Tiff packs away all her things in her Bag of Holding

- They then discuss order of operations

- Theophania goes up and ritually casts Identify through her goggle on the tendrils, which starts growing over her finger and hand a few minutes into the casting time

- The tendrils were created by a necromantic ritual, and it's taking some kind of magical energy from the alter and diffusing it out into the world

- Tiff's finger and hand look like they had started to decay, but only a skin deep hurt. Her hand still functions okay

- Osiris casts Dispel Magic on the abjuration aura protecting the altar and the aura disappears with a small pop

- She tosses a small pebble and it hits the altar

- Now that the protection spell is gone, Theophania casts Detect Magic as ritual through her goggles and there is an aura of conjuration and necromantic magic on the altar whereas the tendrils just have necromantic energies

- With the additional information, Osiris casts Dispel Magic again, this time at the altar focusing on the conjuration element of its magic, which vanishes with a puff of air

- Tiff can see that the energy is no longer flowing through the tendrils

- Osiris casts Dispel Magic on the altar again this time, but it doesn't work this time

- She tries again this time with small, but more directed energy, and the glow gets dimmer and smaller until it collapses in on itself and then explodes outward in a wave of necromantic energy

- Osiris starts beating on the altar with her warhammer and the top cracks

- Rusty gets out his portable ram and tries to hit the altar, but he can't get a good angle on it because it's so low, so he takes Tiff's tiny Light Hammer, and managed to break a chunk of one of the corners off

- Osiris then hands Rusty her warhammer and he manages to break it in half pretty quickly

- Under the altar is a skull with a weird darkness in its eyes and mouth

- Osiris notes that the skull is not undead

- Theophania identifies (with an arcana check not the spell) that it is a magic source where magic from another plane of existence, like the Shadowfell maybe since it's obviously necromantic magics

- Osiris tries poking the skull with her hammer, but the skull doesn't move and the darkness starts to creep up the haft of her hammer

- Tiff casts Magic weapon on the hammer and Osiris swings it down on the skull, which explodes leaving a pool of inky darkness that starts creeping across the room

- Everyone backs up to avoid the blackness touching them and Osiris casts Moonbeam and it cancels out the blackness where it's touching it, but it's like sopping up water pooling under a gushing pipe that's still gushing

- The pool of blackness stops expanding when it's about 30' across

- There is a narrow walk-way around the edge of the room, but not much more left

- Osiris asks Tiff for a jar, so Tiff pulls like five sample jars from her BoH

- Osiris takes one and scoops up a sample of the inkiness, but it whips out and withers her hands pretty badly

- Rusty slashes the darkness with his greatsword and there are ripples through the "pool" and when he pulls the sword out the ichor sticks to the metal and the seems to disappear into it

- They are quickly running out of ideas and options, but they don't want to leave the pool of darkness unattended.

- Leaving only half party to guard would just get them killed, so they take the sample Osiris collected and a chunk of the altar which she convinces Tiff to put in the bag of holding

- They make their way back to the city level as quickly as possible and it's now around midnight

- Osiris takes a deep breath of what she thinks should be her first breath of fresh air in over 24 hours, but she smells the stench of decay

- Lyrielle hears a groan and then a disturbing giggle from the same direction that Osiris smells death

- Osiris starts walking that direction and sees two halfling-sized figures run past, but they don't look right

- They turn to look at Osiris and they are clearly undead

- She looks around and she sees several more in addition to those two

- She returns to the group and they convince her to send a message to someone (Rowan Amblecrown) at the Temple to meet them here while they kill the undead roaming the streets "Emergency. please come to the Curlywhit Boarding house immediately. Undead everywhere. Open necromantic portal underground. We need backup and more clerics. Help. Please."

- She receives the response, "Many neighborhoods overrun with undead. We are holding the temple. City guard doing its best to protect people. Do what you can; survive until morning."

- Osiris immediately orders everyone to fall back to the Boarding House, picks up Tiff, and starts running

- 2,000 XP ea for 36,290 XP total ea.

Something About Butt Stuff Because Tangents, Also Osiris Heals a Lot - July 15, 2022

 BATTLE AT THE ALTAR

- Shadow Creature (1) bites Rusty for 22 slashing dmg and 7 necrotic dmg and then claws him for 22 slashing dmg 

- Osiris runs forward out of the Hut and it pops like a bubble, and she casts Aura of Vitality and gives Rusty 6 HP

- Rusty wakes up on the ground and manages to shake off the paralysis

- Raiàn casts Wither and Bloom on SC1 and Rusty giving 15 necrotic dmg (not as effective as hoped) to the enemy and gives Rusty 11 HP then she runs forward a bit and then Misty Steps to flank with Rusty

- Lyrielle rushes with her Step of the Wind to SC2 but then misses him with her quarterstaff

- Theophania steps up to the nearest tendril, pulls out her handaxe, and tries to chop it, but it gets stuck ineffectually, she gives it a quick look and decides a poison spell next won't be useful

- SC2 misses Lyrielle with its claws and then bites her for 14 slashing dmg and 7 necrotic dmg

- SC1 claws Rusty for 12 slashing dmg and then misses biting him

- Osiris gives Rusty 15 HP with the Aura and then heals him some more with Cure Wounds for 21 more HP after stepping forward to touch his ankle

- Rusty stands up, RAGES, but misses with his greatsword then slices into SC1 for 10 slashing dmg

- Raiàn withstands the horrible smell of the creature then breaths 10 lightning dmg cutting through both the remaining tendrils

- Lyrielle misses with her quarterstaff then she uses Patient Defense she breaths in some of the stench of the SC2 and becomes Poisoned for 1 turn

- Theophania shoots SC1 with her repeating shot crossbow for 6 piercing dmg

- SC2 claws Lyrielle for 14 slashing dmg and then misses biting her

- SC1 Disengages and runs up a tunnel and Hides

- Osiris gives Rusty 13 HP and then moves towards Lyrielle then she casts Sacred Flame on SC2, but it dodges

- Rusty moves in the same direction as SC1, then throws a hand axe in that direction missing

- Raiàn moves to see the creature squaring off with Lyrielle and then hits it with Magic Missile for 24 force dmg

- Lyrielle fully resists the smell of the creature smacks SC2 for 5 bludgeoning dmg then she takes another Patient Defense Stance

- Theophania casts Faerie Fire in the hallway in front of Rusty but if the creature is there, it is unaffected

- SC2 claws Lyrielle for 13 slashing dmg and shakes off the Poison effect, then he bites her for 10 slashing and 9 necrotic dmg

- SC1 runs out of the darkness up to Theophania and claws her 14 slashing dmg and then 6 slashing and 6 necrotic dmg

- Osiris heals Lyrielle for 17 HP then she moves back towards Theophania and casts Sacred Flame on SC1 then moves back to exactly where she was

- Rusty moves to flank SC1 with Tiff and then slices into it for 16 slashing dmg and then hits again for 10 slashing

- Raiàn casts Wither and Bloom on SC2 and Lyrielle for 5 necrotic dmg and heals Lyrielle for 11 HP

- Lyrielle stands up, Disengages, and runs back around the corner

- Tiff casts Cure Wounds on herself for 6 HP

- SC2 Hides in the shadows from Raiàn, but Osiris can still see him, but  then he runs forward and attacks Raiàn hitting her with his claw for 9 slashing dmg and she is Paralyzed, and then it bites her for 17 slashing dmg and 16 necrotic dmg

- SC1 claws Theophania for 12 slashing then bites her for 15 slashing and 8 necrotic dmg

- Osiris heals Tiff for 17 HP then casts Sacred Flame on SC2 for 9 radiant dmg

- Rusty slices into SC1 for 21 slashing dmg killing SC1 and it dissipates into nothing but a lingering odor then he rushes towards the other enemy

- Raiàn casts Magic Missile for 14 force dmg killing SC2 with a blue glitter tornado

- Rusty finds the handaxe he threw earlier

- Osiris briefly explores the five other tunnels not finding much difference between any of them even compared to the tunnel they entered through (the sixth tunnel)

- Theophania examines the tendrils coming off the altar, and the ones that are still attached to the altar look the same while the the detached parts are slowly looking less vital but they are also wiggling around trying to reconnect with the other parts

- Osiris casts Sacred Flame on the detached ends of the tendrils to cauterize their ends and burns them back far enough that they stop moving

- Tiff then moves to examining the spell on the altar and can determine that spell has a teleportation or banishment properties to it

- Then they head 40-50' up the "way out" tunnel where Osiris recasts Leomund's Tiny Hut and they start to settle in

- 2,200 XP total ea for 34,290 XP total ea.

The Forgotten Catacombs - June 17, 2022

 - Once the sounds of the battle have stopped echoing, the group holds still and listens and Rusty is pretty sure he hears even more zombie noises up ahead

- They come to a spot where there is a crack in the floor of the tunnel where it looks like it fell into a sink hole, it's just big enough that Rusty can fit down it

-There are definitely noises coming up from down the hole

- Osiris looks down the hole and she can see down to a ground, but it's hard to judge how far down it is and she doesn't see any creatures

- The hole down is wet and a little slimy

- Rusty pulls out his 50' of rope, ties it off and drops it down the hole where some of it lands with a wet thwack

- The quick plan is that Rusty will climb down the hole, get the attention of as many zombie as he can and then scamper back up with Raiàn waiting nearby to cast Fireball down the hole

- Rusty goes to climb down and almost immediately his metal feet lose grip on the wet earth and he slides down and makes a very loud clang when he hits the bottom

- The rope comes down after him and there is silence in the new tunnel system they have found

- Tiff quickly ties off her length of rope (Yay, Bag of Holding) and drops it down after

- They all listen to the silence for a few minutes and decide to climb down after him instead of waiting

- Osiris and Tiff climb down okay and then Raiàn falls but manages to tumble into a standing position followed by Lyrielle who descends with her mad parkour skills 

- There are four branches of paths not far from where they are standing

- The tunnels smells dank and reek of death and decay

- Osiris gets a feeling like maybe the smell is strongest coming from the second tunnel from the right, so they head that direction

- As they are making their way down the tunnel, they realize it's not just a tunnel, but is also catacombs, but it's not the ones under the Temple of Mishakal

- Theophania knows that Mistverge used to be a lot smaller, and that the current Temple has been in its current location for hundreds of years, so this catacombs wouldn't be associated with Mishakal, but she's not sure what it would be associated with

- Osiris examines the bones with her expert eyes and determines they are mostly human with maybe a few elves

- Theophania looks more closely at the bones too and thinks that the bones are all hundreds of years old, perhaps around 500 years old

- Rusty takes point and threads the party's way through the maze, but eventually they find themselves at hub of sorts that's a big open area that forms an almost temple with a stone altar where many pathways converge

- The altar has tendrils that range from 1/2" in diameter and get bigger and thicker up to 3" or 4" and snake over the ground and climb up onto the altar and they are pulsing slightly

- The long side of the altar has a carving of a dragon's head in profile with a crescent behind it, which Osiris recognizes as the symbol for Takhisis who is the Goddess of Night, Hatred, with the domain of death and she is associated with the evil dragons - O takes a step back 

- Tiff steps closer as soon as she notices the pulsing and notices that the tendrils are either moving magic to or from the altar and the altar has a ward of some kind on it

- She then casts Detect Magic as a ritual and learns the tendrils are glowing with evocation magic while the altar glows with abjuration and conjuration magic

- Rusty asks if he can hit it with his sword

- Osiris takes some time to cast Leomund's Tiny Hut (as a ritual) so everyone except Rusty can be protected while he takes some experimental swings

- Rusty also says the tendrils kind of remind him of the tentacles he saw in his drug trip a few days ago, which is why he wants to try to chop them into little bits

- Rusty chops the first tendril and it breaks and pop and wiggles around like a snake body that has just had its head removed

- Nothing bad seems to happen, so he moves onto the next tendril, which then also curls up and flops around

- As he goes to cut the third one, when a creature jumps out of the shadows onto Rusty's back and claws him for 9 slashing dmg and Rusty is Paralyzed then it bites him for 22 slashing dmg and 8 necrotic dmg

- The humanoid creature looks like it is made of shadow with oversized eyes, long claws and big jagged teeth

- 1,800 XP ea for 32,090 XP total ea.

Magical Meat Grinder #It'sNotOurFaultYouCan'tRollAbove10 - June 10, 2022

 - The horde of zombies has clearly spotted the party and starts rushing towards where they are standing around strategizing what to do 

- There are ten halfling or gnome-sized zombies and two of the spider-zombies

- In the time it takes the horde to approach, Raiàn casts Fireball, killing ALL the small zombies 

- Osiris also casts Moonbeam across the whole of the 8' W tunnel and Theophania casts Web catching one of the two spider-zombies in the Moonbeam spell stuck in the spell

- Another wave of small zombies is coming along behind 

ANOTHER SEWER BATTLE

-  SMall Zombie 10 moves forward gets stuck in the Web briefly then wiggles his way through to be in front of of the SPider Zombie1 

- Rusty throws a javelin at SMZ10 but misses

- Theophania shoots SPZ2 (the one that's stuck) for 5 piercing dmg

-  Lyrielle pushes her way through to the front of the part and throws a dart atSPZ2 for 6 piercing dmg

- SPZ2 takes 2 radiant dmg from Moonbeam then he manages to break free of the Web and lumbers forward to Lyrielle

- SMZ3 moves into the Web and then gets stuck and flails around until he breaks free

- SMZ9 moves forward and gets stuck in the Web

- SMZ7 moves foward as far as it can into the Web

- Red Zombie2 moves up to the edge of the Web but can't move forward because of its "friends"

- SMZ6 moves as far forward in the tunnel as it can

- SMZ5 moves as far forward in the tunnel as it can 

- SMZ1 moves as far forward in the tunnel as it can

- Raiàn shoot SMZ10 with a Magic Missile bolt for 5 force dmg and two bolts as SPZ1 6 force dmg 

- SMZ4 moves as far forward in the tunnel as it can

- SMZ8 moves as far forward in the tunnel as it can

- SMZ2 moves as far forward in the tunnel as it can

- RZ1 moves as far forward in the tunnel as it can

- Osiris casts Sacred Flame on SPZ2 for 5 radiant dmg

- SPZ2 claws Lyrielle for 8 slashing dmg and knocks her prone then it misses biting her

- SMZ10 moves forward to the spot in front of  Rusty and then sees Lyrielle on the ground so it slashes her with its elongated claws for 3 slashing dmg and 4 poison dmg and she is Poisoned

- Rusty pulls out his greatsword and cuts SMZ10 right in half then steps forward and misses due to slipping in zombie guts

- Theophania shoots SPZ2 for 8 piercing dmg then falls back 10'

- Lyrielle stands up and pops SPZ2 with her staff for 9 bludgeoning dmg then misses punching it as she reels from the Poison, but then she shakes off the Poison effect

- SMZ3 is stuck in the Web

- SMZ9 is stuck in the Web

- SMZ7 moves through the Web and the Moonbeam for 6 radiant dmg 

- RZ2 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- SMZ6 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- SMZ5 can't move forward because of its "friends" 

- SMZ1 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- Raiàn moves forward into the first bit of Web taking 22 slashing dmg from SPZ2 as she passes him then she breaths lightning (5 dmg) on SPZ1, SMZ3, RZ2, SMZ1, and SMZ4 then she casts Misty Step to teleport 30' back in front of Theophania

- R1Z1 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- SMZ4 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- SMZ8 can't move forward because of its "friends" 

- SMZ2 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- Osiris casts Healing Word on Lyrielle for 6 HP and then she moves Moonbeam to the back end of the Web spell so that she has four zombies in its effect

- SPZ2 claws Lyrielle for 7 slashing dmg then misses with his second arm swipe

- Rusty slices SPZ2 for 10 slashing dmg then again for 12 slashing dmg 

- Theophania misses her shot at SPZ2

- Lyrielle smacks  SPZ2 with her staff for 5 bludgeoning dmg and then punches SPZ2 for 8 bludgeoning dmg then she kicks it (DMS) for 9 bludgeoning dmg killing it! (She sweeps his legs out from under it then smashes its head in with her fist.)

- SMZ3 takes 5 radiant dmg from Moonbeam and is stuck in the Web 

- SMZ9 takes 5 radiant dmg from Moonbeam then it breaks free from the Web and moves forward to the edge of the

- SMZ6 takes 5 radiant dmg from Moonbeam

- SMZ7 moves forward to Lyrielle and Rusty and then misses Rusty with its claws

- RZ2 takes 11 radiant dmg from Moonbeam moves into the Web and gets stuck, but then manages to break free and moves forward farther into the Web. We can now see that it is one of the exploding hump-backed zombies they saw before

- SMZ5 can't move forward because of its "friends" 

- SMZ1 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- Raiàn casts Chromatic Order on SMZ7 for 10 lightning dmg

- R1Z1 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- SMZ4 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- SMZ2 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- Osiris casts Toll the Dead on SMZ7 for 15 necrotic dmg and he dies!

- Rusty steps forward in front of Lyrielle and misses SMZ9 with his first swing, but then slices into it for 8 slashing dmg

- Theophania steps forward around Raiàn then shoots SMZ9 for 6 piercing dmg

- Lyrielle steps forward and smashes her staff into SMZ9 for 11 bludgeoning dmg knocking its head off 

- SPZ1 moves forward out of the Web taking 20 slashing dmg from Rusty as he passes him then claws Osiris for 22 slashing dmg then misses her on its 

- RZ2 is now stuck in the Web

- SMZ3 is stuck in the Web

- SMZ6 is stuck in the Web

- SMZ5 can't move forward because of its "friends" 

- SMZ1 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- Raiàn casts Magic Missile with all three bolts aimed at SPZ1 for 8 total force dmg

- R1Z1 can't move forward because of its "friends"

- SMZ4 moves forward into the Moonbeam and takes 4 radiant dmg, but then can't move forward because of its "friends"

- SMZ8 can't move forward because of its "friends" 

- SMZ2 moves forward into the Moonbeam and takes 4 radiant dmg, but then can't move forward because of its "friends"

- Osiris misses SPZ1 with her hammer then pulls out her shield

- Rusty steps back to SPZ1 and slices into it for 10 slashing dmg then again for 8 slashing dmg

- Theophania shoots SPZ1 for 3 piercing dmg

- Lyrielle slams SPZ1 with her staff for 10 bludgeoning dmg then she punches it for 8 bludgeoning dmg and her fist sinks into its torso and guts go flying and it crumples

- SMZ3 takes 13 radiant dmg from Moonbeam and dies!

- SMZ4 takes 6 radiant dmg from Moonbeam 

- SMZ1 takes 9 radiant dmg from Moonbeam and steps into the Web getting stuck but then he wiggles and breaks out and takes one more step farther into the Web

- SMZ5 moves forward into the Moonbeam taking 12 radiant dmg and then gets stuck in the Web

- Raiàn casts Acid Splash on RZ2 for 4 acid dmg

- SMZ3 is stuck in the Web

- SMZ8 moves forward into the Moonbeam and takes 8 radiant dmg 

- RZ1 moves forward but can't get far because of his "friends"

- Osiris moves Moonbeam forward to cover the middle of the Web spell then steps back 5'

- Rusty moves forward into the Web, gets stuck, but still manages to slice SMZ4 for 10 slashing dmg then again for 16 slashing dmg and the Web is full of guts that are then vaporized by the Moonbeam

- Theophania shoots RZ2 with her crossbow for 3 piercing dmg

- Lyrielle prepares herself for a zombie breaking through the Web

- RZ2 takes 4 radiant dmg from Moonbeam then breaks free of the Web and moves past Rusty taking 15 slashing dmg as he goes and steps in front of Lyrielle whereupon she bashes him with her staff for 11 bludgeoning dmg

- SMZ1 takes 6 radiant dmg from Moonbeam then moves forward out of the Web then turns and misses Rusty with its little claws

- SMZ5 breaks free of the Web then moves into the Moonbeam taking 3 radiant dmg and progresses forward across the Web next to Rusty

- Raiàn casts Fireball on all the zombies and also Rusty (who only takes 6 fire dmg because of Careful Spell) RZ2, RZ1, SMZ6, SMZ5, SMZ1, SMZ8, and all take 24 fire dmg, but SMZ2 only takes 12 fire dmg

- SMZ8 holds because the Web in front of him is on fire

- SMZ2 holds because the Web on front of him is on fire

- Osiris moves the Moonbeam onto the three Zombies holding behind the burning Web

- Rusty takes 2 fire dmg from the burning Web and then the Web is poof gone, and he moves to flank RZ2 with Lyrielle for 13 slashing dmg then again for 12 slashing dmg

- Theophania shoots RZ1 for 4 piercing dmg

- Lyrielle smashes RZ1 for 11 bludgeoning dmg and it explodes giving Lyrielle 4 necrotic dmg and Rusty 2 necrotic dmg

- RZ1 takes 5 radiant dmg from Moonbeam and then rushes forward to Rusty and claws him for 5 bludgeoning and 4 necrotic dmg and then misses

- Raiàn runs up next to Rusty and casts Burning Hands on RZ1 for 7 fire dmg then she Misty Steps back behind Tiff

- SMZ8 is incinerated by Moonbeam

- SMZ2 is incinerated by Moonbeam

- Osiris casts Guiding Bolt but misses

- Rusty slices into RZ1 for 15 slashing dmg and then again for 22 slashing dmg and he is splattered with necrotic gore for 2 dmg

BATTLE OVER

- Moonbeam lasts for 12 more seconds, so Osiris incinerates all the zombie guts so the tunnel doesn't smell so bad

-  Osiris casts Prayer of Healing for 19 HP to anyone who needs it

- Then they all sit down for a breather.

- 2,000 XP ea for 30,290 XP total ea.
